Swimmer inspires and motivates members through his talk

Paralympian Gold medallist Peter Hull MBE inspired and motivated WI members in Fishbourne last month with his talk about his journey to the top of his sport and the barriers he was determined would not be in his way.

Peter was born in 1965 with arms that end at the elbow and no legs. He thanks his parents for their commitment to making sure he had the best upbringing they could give him. He said: "They let me fall and they let me discover so I would find my limits. As it turns out, I haven't found any yet."

After completing his schooling while working, he trained and competed in two Paralympic Games. Following an arduous training schedule, he won three Paralympic Gold medals and set three World Records for swimming. He has also completed in 12 marathons and 18 half marathons.

"I've never allowed myself to step away from anything simply because of my body," Peter said. His parents encouraged him to not see his body as limiting, and to be determined, adaptable, and share joys in life. He has lived out this in his life as an athlete and in his more recent work in leadership. The WI group felt inspired by his talk and were delighted he could join them for the event.

The Fishbourne Evening WI group's end of year social will be on 20 December 2023 at the Fishbourne Centre, on Blackboy Lane. Following a venue change, the group is currently meeting at 2.30pm-4.30pm, with doors opening at 2pm.
