Sport & Leisure

The WI encourages members to be fit and healthy by providing opportunities to participate in a variety of sport and leisure activities.  Competitions and "fun days" are organised offering opportunities to meet members from other WIs in friendly rivalry.

In addition to the sports events, the team arranges Outdoor Talks and Walks for members.  Short walks are complemented with a speaker.  The speaker gives a talk, outdoors, on a relevant topic to the walk such as: National Trust’s use of Exmoor ponies at Cissbury Ring; rewilding at the Knepp estate; water treatment and reservoir at Ardingly.

Centenary Oaks, Slindon  Walk and Talk

Friday 14th June 2024      10.30 am to approx. 1.00 pm

How have they grown?

In 2019 WIs planted 100 oak tree saplings in Northwood at Slindon, to commemorate WSFWI 100 years.  Join us for a countryside walk to the trees, and hear about the The Rise of Northwood, the regeneration of woodland by the National Trust, in which our Federation proudly took part. Historical facts of interest, and how the replanting of trees has improved the habitat for wildlife will be pointed out.

A 3 – 4 mile circular walk on flint track and grass/mud footpaths.  Some paths are uneven, with gradual inclines. Suitable walking shoes/boots, and clothing to suit weather at the time is advisable. There are no stiles.

Tickets £5.00   WI members only
Closing date:  Friday 7 June 2024.   Places are limited.   There will be a wait list, and a further date will be arranged if necessary.
